What your Neighbors and Friends are Saying....About Hobson Ponds

On January 2 the "Fat Lady Sang".   It was a little out of tune, and the lyrics were not what we wanted to hear but toward the end it sweetened up.

By a 5-4 vote the City Council approved the rezoning of the property at 1000 Plainfield / Naperville Road into R3A Multi Family and also approved the preliminary PUD (Planned Unit Development) for 22 townhouses.

City Council meeting January 2nd.

Item L-1   a) Request to change the zoning from R1A to R3A,     b) approve the PUD,     is up for a final vote.

Please attend and demonstrate your support to retain the current zoning if it can not be open space.
Please send an email to the city council members and requesting their support for our position on this subject.
It could be pointed out that by retaining the current R1A zoning will, in all probability, provide a 6-12 month time period in which various organizations could find/locate grant money to acquire the land as open space.   Also, the turmoil in the plans of the Park District to build the $35 million Rec Center and/or a change in the position of the Park District due to the upcoming elections could change the attitude of the Park District toward acquisition.

Subject: Letter To The Editor: Rec Center and Ponds of Hobson West

inconsistent use of public surveys and petitions by our elected officials is impossible to understand.
During 2006 some neighbors collected 1,061 signatures from 699 households (over 80% of the households contacted) that are within about a mile radius of the property. While collecting the signatures a common theme was ...if it cannot be kept as is, or open space, or expanded Park Land then let us at least keep it zoned for single family.
Here we have 699 households in a small area immediately adjacent to existing park land who would like to see the existing park land

Open Letter to Grant Wehrli he voted against us too!

Dear Mr. Wehrli

I apologize that I have been remiss in thanking you for meeting with us last week.   Between the holiday and assisting a relative in some matters it has been a very hectic time.   We hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

In addition to some very concerned citizens of Hobson West and the surrounding immediate sub-divisions, there were representatives from the Mayneland Farms area, the TOD study area and the 75th Street 120 apartment project (PC # 1627).   These issues cover a large area of Naperville with thousands of voters and where the question of rezoning of small lots will probably be more frequent in the future years.   We are all interested in retaining current zoning in our neighborhoods.

A little history...

If the City Staff report does not lead to additional study, meetings,
negotiations, etc. then it is possible that the petitioner's request for
rezoning could possibly come up for vote. A big turnout will demonstrate
that we are interested in seeing it become park land. If not park land
then it must retain the current zoning of single family homes.
