Bullet Points!

  • Close to four Schools

  • Walkable or bike friendly for most of the North Side area.

  • This site could also help mitigate the flooding issue in the Cress Creek basin.

  • Best way to preserve the land's natural features and trees.

  • Location is NOT limited in space, almost 15 acres.

  • It is accessible all the time; not blocked by river-walk, special events, shopping and restaurant traffic.

  • If they expand Nichols Library parking into a deck you know who will use the parking and it won't be library patrons.

  • Cost of the new parking deck at Nichols library will buy half the farm!

  • The city is planning on adding another Library, why not on this site?

  • We need a New Library on the north side of Town.

The homeowners & constituents will request that the City Council members build a state-of-the art library/LRC at the Mayneland Farm location on the corner of Mill Street and Bauer Rd.

This proposed site’s location is optimal since it is adjacent to and near many of our schools: Mill Elementary, North High School, Jefferson Junior High and Beebe Elementary. This location is also near a large densely populated residential area, including retirement homes.

Our children would benefit from having a modern library/LRC in their community that they can walk or ride their bicycles to. Our older schools would benefit from having the complementary facilities of a modern Library/LRC nearby.

A library/LRC at this site could also help mitigate the flooding issue in this area by allowing for a best practice design with water detention capabilities and preservation of the land natural features and trees.

In keeping with Naperville’s tradition of excellence we envision our future libraries as Learning Resource Centers with state of the art audiovisual equipment, computer networks, amphitheater meeting rooms and drive-thru pick-up and drop-off lanes. We must look to the future to envision our needs and then plan in the present for the best solutions.

We love our downtown library and are proud of its achievements. However this location is limited in space and is at many times not accessible due river-walk and restaurant traffic. Building expansion would not be optimal for an LRC. It would also destroy the trees and beautiful landscape, resulting in a loss of this library’s quaint quality.
